Job description
The Medical Director is appointed by and is responsible to the Chief Executive Officer as the Chief Medical officer of the health center, and is charged with providing leadership in all areas relating to the clinical operation of the health center. The Medical Director is responsible for recommending and implementing clinical policies and procedures; supervising the clinical staff in their medical, nursing, and administrative duties; ensuring continuous quality improvement in all clinical activities; and acting as an integral part of the management team of the health center.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Develops a rapport with patients striving to build a physician-patient partnership that facilitates marked familiarity with patients' medical and treatment history, care needs, and psychosocial factors as a means to manage patient's risk factors and improve patient outcomes.
Ensures RHS maintains a strong provider network of hospitals, physicians, and ancillary providers able to meet the medical needs of RHS patients in all areas served.
Provides primary medical care by caring for all patients in accordance with the physician's medical specialty.
Develops and/or ensures a plan of care for each patient including complete medical history, physician examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization where necessary.
Stresses the importance of preventive health care measures .
Organizes the clinical staff and resources in carrying out the health care program of the community health center.
Fosters a workplace that results in the development of a high performing team of professionals and staff.
Develops and inspire a highly effective team of health care professionals .
Insures that all staff are properly coached and directed, and that clearly defined measurements of performance and incentives are utilized to enhance individual and organizational effectiveness. Provides advice and counsel to all clinical personnel on matters related to clinical care, patient grievances and related issues.
Ensures that RHS is appropriately staffed with a full complement of medical staff providers. Ensures all staff members are properly contracted, qualified, directed, and motivated to provide RHS patients with high quality services.
Specifies the responsibilities, authority, and working relationships among the clinical staff, including appointing and any clinical or administrative positions involving the clinical staff.
Provides for a clear and effective flow of information between clinical staff and the management team by conducting monthly staff meetings.
Participates, with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Financial Officer, as an integral part of the management team of the community health center.

- Establishes an effective working relationship with public and private physicians and other clinical care referral resources.
Job Responsibilities
• Demonstrate the ability to make critical case management decisions supported by substantial financial analysis, clinical knowledge, and critical data based decision-making
• Ensure RHS meets or exceeds all governmental, regulatory and accreditation standards in all areas of day-to-day operations
• Ability to build consensus and focus within the overall RHS organization as well as within and among various resources, vendors, and strategic partners
• Makes recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer regarding the employment, promotion, transfer, and discharge of all clinical staff and directly conducts the implementation of all decisions relating to the employment of these staff members
• Makes recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer regarding the purchase of equipment and supplies needed to provide patient care
• Conducts annual performance evaluations of all clinical staff in a timely manner
• Advises and assists the Chief Executive Officer in all major decisions regarding policies and procedures
• Participates in the completion of the annual federal grant request and other grant applications as needed by assuming responsibility for the clinical portion of those grants
• Reports to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis regarding the clinical activities of the health center
• Ensures an appropriate environment for the administration of health care by keeping all equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion
• In performing job duties, may be exposed to blood and body fluids, hazardous chemicals, operating technical equipment and prolonged standing. Assure the proper protective gear is used for prevention
• Performs all other duties as assigned
