Job Description:

This role involves providing full-scope primary care to adult patients within a correctional environment across two New Jersey state prison facilities. The physician will manage routine and complex medical needs, perform common procedures, and oversee ongoing care for a stable daily patient volume. Care is delivered in a structured setting with a focus on chronic disease management, acute care, and preventive health for an exclusively adult male population. The position involves close collaboration with onsite clinical teams, use of the Centricity EMR system, and participation in a shared on-call rotation. Physicians should expect a consistent Monday–Friday schedule while rotating between the two facilities based on a preset schedule.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary care services, including routine exams, diagnostic testing, and health assessments.
• Manage chronic and acute conditions for an adult correctional population.
• Perform procedures such as suturing, incision and drainage, and joint injections.
• Prescribe medications and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Educate patients and, when appropriate, staff on medical conditions and treatment options.
• Collaborate with advanced practitioners and other medical staff as required by facility protocols.
• Rotate between two correctional facilities and maintain consistent patient care across sites.
• Participate in an on call rotation with other physicians to support continuous clinical coverage.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Active New Jersey medical license (or willingness to obtain one).
• Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related specialty (preferred or required by contract).
• Specialty certifications if required by client or state regulations.
• At least one year of Primary Care experience; correctional medicine experience preferred.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Active DEA registration.
• Completion of TB screening and health certificate as required by state or contract.
• Ability to meet all federal, state, and local compliance standards for practice within a correctional setting.
