Your primary focus is to provide regulatory-compliant supervision and clinical mentorship to our Physician Assistants across our Arizona locations.

Key Responsibilities

As the Supervising Physician, your duties are strictly limited to oversight and compliance as defined by the Arizona Medical Board and the Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants:

  • Supervision Agreements: Establish and maintain written delegation/supervision agreements with PAs (specifically those with <8,000 hours of clinical practice) as required by A.R.S. § 32-2533.
  • Clinical Oversight: Review and ensure that health care tasks performed by APPs are within their scope of training and experience.
  • Quality Assurance & Chart Review: Conduct regular, structured chart reviews and provide feedback to ensure adherence to NextCare’s clinical protocols and evidence-based standards.
  • Availability for Consultation: Be available via telecommunication (phone, email, or video) during clinic operating hours to provide guidance on complex cases or diagnostic impressions.
  • Prescriptive Oversight: Maintain a system for recording and reviewing instances where PAs prescribe Schedule II or Schedule III controlled substances.
  • Compliance: Ensure the "physician-physician assistant team" maintains identified scopes of practice and established performance evaluation processes.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited MD or DO program.
  • Licensure: Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Arizona.
  • Certification: Board Certification in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Internal Medicine is preferred.
  • DEA: Active DEA registration.

  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of Arizona Revised Statutes (Title 32, Chapter 25) regarding PA supervision and NP collaboration.

  • Schedule: Flexible/Part-time. No 12-hour clinic shifts or weekends required.
  • Setting: Remote/Administrative. (Occasional site visits may be required for board compliance audits).
  • Liability: NextCare provides professional malpractice insurance covering the supervisory role.
