Position: Primary Care Physician (MD)
Setting: Outpatient Tribal Health Clinic
Mathiesen Memorial Health Clinic is seeking a Primary Care Physician (MD) to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care in an outpatient tribal health clinic setting. This role supports the clinic’s mission to improve the health and wellness of tribal members and the surrounding community through culturally responsive, high-quality medical care.
Position Summary
The Primary Care Physician provides outpatient primary care services for patients of all ages, with a focus on preventive care, chronic disease management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Clinical Responsibilities

Evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of acute and chronic conditions

Preventive care services including screenings, immunizations, and wellness visits

Management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and cardiovascular disease

Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging

Prescribing medications in compliance with federal, state, and tribal regulations

Coordinating referrals and care with internal and external providers

Performing minor office procedures within scope
Patient-Centered & Culturally Responsive Care

Deliver care aligned with tribal values and traditions

Support trauma-informed practices and address social determinants of health

Educate patients and families regarding conditions and treatment options
Documentation & Compliance

Maintain timely documentation in the EHR

Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and applicable regulations

Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and performance improvement
Collaboration & Teamwork

Work closely with nurses, MAs, behavioral health providers, and care coordinators

Participate in team meetings and case conferences

Support collaboration with advanced practice providers
Requirements
-
Doctor of Medicine (MD) from accredited medical school
-
Completion of accredited residency in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related primary care specialty
-
Current, unrestricted California medical license (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
-
DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
-
Board eligible or board certified in a primary care specialty
-
Current BLS certification
Preferred:
-
Experience in tribal health, FQHCs, or underserved settings
-
Familiarity with culturally responsive and trauma-informed care models
Work is performed primarily in an outpatient clinic setting.
