Gastroenterology Physician Job Details

  • Location: Marquette, MI 49855 – Experience Michigan healthcare in a lakeside city known for its natural beauty and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Assignment Dates: Multiple block schedules: 3/25/2026 (orientation), 3/26–3/30, 4/16–4/20, 6/12–6/15, 12/11–12/14
  • Shifts: Monday–Friday: 9-hour day shifts (8 hours billable) plus 15-hour overnight call; Weekend call: 24 hours
  • Shift Duration: 12 hours (varied).
  • Estimated Weekly Salary: $6,350 - $7,520.
  • Estimated Patient Encounters: Up to 12 gastroenterology procedures per shift; lower inpatient volume
  • Credentialing: Immediate turnaround required; estimated timeframe 60 days
  • Board Certification: Required in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology
  • Employment Type: Locum tenens physician contract

Gastroenterologist Qualifications

  • Active Michigan medical license
  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in gastroenterology
  • Completed Gastroenterology Fellowship (required)
  • Certifications: ABLS, ACLS, ATLS, BLS (all required)
  • Full availability for all scheduled block dates
  • Proficiency with Cerner, gGastro, and Athena EMR systems

Gastroenterology Physician Responsibilities

  • Deliver hospital-based gastroenterology coverage, including procedures and on-call services
  • Perform upper and lower GI endoscopy (EGD, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy), biopsies, and therapeutic GI interventions
  • Conduct ERCP and EUS procedures (preferred)
  • Manage PEG/PEG-J tube placement, esophageal dilatation/manometry, hydrogen breath testing, capsule endoscopy, and related GI procedures
  • Interpret esophageal manometry and small bowel biopsies
  • Complete all charting and documentation independently (no scribe provided)
  • Communicate pathology results and follow-up recommendations to nursing staff and patients
  • Collaborate with a skilled Endoscopy Unit team in a Level 2 trauma hospital
