Shopboy is a NYC-based tailor shop and curated retail space providing professional clothing alterations and garment repair services for men’s and women’s apparel. Our work ranges from suits and formalwear to denim, leather, knitwear, and specialty fabrics. All work is performed on-site by experienced tailoring professionals focused on craftsmanship and precision.

We are hiring an experienced Tailor / Seamstress / Alterations Specialist to support operations at our new Greenpoint location.

Position Summary

This role focuses on garment fitting, alterations, repairs, and customer interaction. Ideal candidates have deep hands-on experience working with industrial sewing machines, fabric handling, and precision garment finishing.

Core Responsibilities

• Conduct garment fittings and take accurate measurements

• Pin and mark clothing for alterations

• Perform professional clothing alterations including:

  • Hemming pants and skirts

  • Sleeve shortening

  • Waist adjustments

  • Original denim hems

  • Suit and formalwear alterations

  • Garment restructuring

• Repair garments (zippers, buttons, seams, linings)

• Hand sewing and finishing work

• Provide customer guidance on fit and styling

• Inspect finished garments for quality and accuracy

• Operate industrial sewing machines, sergers, and pressing equipment

• Maintain organized workspace and equipment

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years tailoring, seamstress, or alterations experience preferred

• Experience working with:

  • Industrial sewing machines

  • Hand stitching

  • Garment fitting

• Strong fabric knowledge (silk, wool, denim, leather, lace)

• High attention to detail and craftsmanship standards

• Ability to stand for extended periods

• Strong communication and customer service skills
