Job Description:
As a Primary Care Physician at the ICE detention facility in Taylor, TX, you will provide comprehensive medical care to a diverse patient population, including adult men and women and, in some cases, children. This role involves performing routine and urgent evaluations, managing chronic conditions, supervising prenatal care, and responding to medical emergencies within the facility. You will collaborate with advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality care in a secure environment. The position requires adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and proficiency in electronic health records while maintaining compliance with federal standards and IHSC policies.
Job Responsibilities
• Provide direct patient care for adults and children, including acute, chronic, and preventive care.
• Conduct physical assessments, diagnostic testing, and follow-up evaluations for diverse medical conditions.
• Review and approve outside referrals and specialty consults as needed.
• Supervise and collaborate with advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and other clinical personnel.
• Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate appropriate care within the facility.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records, including chart reviews and co-signatures.
• Participate in facility performance improvement activities, staff meetings, and compliance with IHSC policies and standards.
Qualifications
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Texas.
• DEA license to prescribe controlled substances.
• Completion of three years of specialty training in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Pediatrics (board certification preferred).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or equivalent.
• Proficiency in managing primary care for diverse populations, including chronic conditions and female health needs.
• Experience in detention, correctional, or residential healthcare settings (preferred but not required).
• Strong oral and written communication skills, cultural competence, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
