Job Description:

This role involves delivering comprehensive medical care to an incarcerated population with diverse health needs. The physician will conduct examinations, diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions, and manage urgent medical situations. Responsibilities include prescribing medications, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with mental health professionals to ensure holistic care. Strong documentation skills and adherence to clinical standards are essential, as well as the ability to work in a dynamic correctional environment that requires flexibility and sound judgment.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
• Perform routine physical examinations, diagnostic testing, and health assessments.
• Diagnose and treat a wide range of primary care conditions, including chronic and acute illnesses.
• Manage urgent and emergent medical needs such as trauma, fractures, and overdose protocols.
• Develop treatment plans for chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.
• Prescribe medications and renew prescriptions as needed.
• Document all patient care accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Collaborate with mental health professionals for patients with co-occurring medical and behavioral health issues.
• Provide patient education on health conditions, preventive care, and treatment options.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited medical school (MD or DO).
• Active California medical license (unrestricted).
• Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine preferred.
• Completion of residency training in a relevant specialty.
• Current CPR/BLS certification (AHA preferred).
• DEA registration and NPI number.
• TB screening (PPD or chest X-ray) and current health certificate as required.
• Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and professional standards.
• Prior experience in correctional health or primary care preferred.
