Job Description:

This Primary Care Physician role is based in Hookerton, NC, providing essential healthcare services to adult male inmates in close and medium custody. The physician will manage a daily caseload of 12–15 patients, addressing both routine and urgent care needs in a correctional setting. The position requires collaboration with APPs and adherence to strict regulatory and documentation standards. With a Monday–Friday schedule and no on-call duties, this opportunity offers a stable and impactful environment for a provider experienced in primary care and correctional medicine.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct routine physical exams, diagnostic tests, and health screenings.
• Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans.
• Educate patients and their families on health conditions and preventive care.
• Collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) as required by state/facility guidelines.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using the HERO EMR system.
• Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations and professional standards.
• Provide primary and minor urgent care services in a correctional facility setting

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
• Active and unrestricted North Carolina state medical license.
• Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related specialty (preferred).
• Specialty certification if required by client or state regulations.
• Minimum of one year experience as a Primary Care Physician (preferred).
• Current BLS and DEA certifications.
• Completion of TB screening and health certificate if applicable.
• Compliance with all professional standards under licensure and scope of practice.
