Clinic Physician – Family Practice or Internal Medicine
Location: Tule River Indian Health Center – Porterville, CA - 50 Miles from Fresno
Position Type: Full-Time or Part-Time | Exempt
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (flexible hours as needed)
Compensation: $150 per hour plus travel
Loan Repayment Eligible: Yes, through Indian Health Service (IHS)

About the Role
Tule River Indian Health Center, Inc. (TRIHCI) is seeking a Clinic Physician (Family Practice or Internal Medicine) to provide compassionate, high-quality primary care to patients in an outpatient setting. Reporting to the Medical Director, the physician will deliver comprehensive medical services while collaborating with a dedicated care team to improve health outcomes for Native American and underserved populations.
Job Responsibilities
• Provide diagnostic, preventive, and treatment services for a full range of patients
• Conduct thorough patient evaluations, histories, and screenings
• Prescribe treatment plans including health education, medications, and follow-up care
• Oversee and collaborate with mid-level providers, nurses, and support staff
• Coordinate patient referrals to specialty care and local hospitals as needed
• Perform and review routine procedures including immunizations, wound care, and lab work
• Document and maintain accurate electronic medical records (EHR)
• Participate in quality improvement, staff meetings, and specialized committees (e.g., Diabetes Care, PRC Review)
• Assist with clinic reports, audits, and regulatory compliance (AAAHC, IHS, HIPAA)
• Provide occasional Saturday coverage and after-hours telephone call (paid)
Qualifications
• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Residency in Family Practice or Internal Medicine
• Current California medical license, DEA, and NPI registration
• Current BLS certification (First Aid/CPR at BCLS level required; ACLS and/or PALS preferred)
• California Driver’s License and insurable driving record
• Must pass pre-employment background check, drug test, and physical
Preferred:
• 2–4 years of outpatient clinical experience
• Board Certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine
• Knowledge of AAAHC or JCAHO standards
• Experience working with Native American or underserved communities
• Ability to obtain local hospital admitting privileges
