Associate Program Director – Family Medicine Residency Program
Location: Los Angeles, California
Setting: Academic – Family Medicine Residency Program
Compensation: $250,000–$270,000 per year
Position Overview:
The Associate Program Director (APD) plays a critical leadership role in the Family Medicine Residency Program. This position supports the Program Director in implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving the residency curriculum and experience in alignment with ACGME standards.
The APD dedicates at least 20 hours/week to the residency program and is actively involved in clinical teaching, resident education, faculty development, program administration, and scholarly activity.
Required Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree
- Board Certified in Family Medicine by ABFM or AOBFP
- Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in California
- Minimum 3 years post-residency clinical experience in Family Medicine
- Meets ACGME definition of core faculty
- Demonstrated teaching experience with residents or medical students
- Prior GME leadership experience (e.g., core faculty, committee chair, APD)
- In-depth knowledge of ACGME Family Medicine Program Requirements
- Experience with curriculum development, scholarly activity, and QI initiatives
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Design, implement, and evaluate the residency curriculum
- Supervise and teach residents in inpatient and outpatient settings
- Participate in didactics, simulation, and clinical skills development
- Support competency-based evaluations and committee participation (CCC, PEC)
- Assist with resident recruitment, onboarding, and orientation
- Help ensure ACGME compliance and site visit readiness
- Support development of program policies, schedules, and innovations
- Participate in program evaluations and institutional reviews
- Mentor residents in QI projects, research, and scholarly work
- Promote faculty development in evaluation and teaching
- Encourage publication and presentation opportunities
- Promote resident well-being and provide career mentorship
