Locum - Physician - General Medicine AK

Join a distinguished team dedicated to serving Veterans across Alaska as a Locum Physician specializing in General Medicine. This impactful role offers flexible, part-time engagements that allow you to contribute to meaningful assessments while maintaining your professional independence. Conduct non-treatment Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments, primarily interview-based with select physical evaluations, in various locations within your region. Your expertise will directly support Veterans' well-being and care decisions, making a lasting difference in their lives.

Required Skills:
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with valid licensure in Alaska
  • Board-certified or eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, or related fields
  • Proven experience with general medicine assessments, especially in compensation and pension contexts
  • Strong interview skills and ability to perform basic physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
  • Ability to work independently within established protocols and guidelines

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Prior experience with Veteran healthcare or DVA/VA assessments
  • Familiarity with VA-specific forms and reporting requirements
  • Certification in occupational health or similar specialties
  • Comfortable with remote reporting and administrative follow-up tasks

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Medical degree from an accredited institution
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience in general medicine or related specialties
  • Previous experience performing Compensation & Pension exams is highly desirable

Other Requirements:
  • Own a designated office location within specific areas in Alaska (Juneau or Sitka within 50 miles; Delta Junction within 75 miles)
  • Ability to commit to ongoing PRN engagements; flexibility for half-day (4 hours) or full-day (8 hours) shifts
  • Complete credentialing and onboarding promptly; participation in training sessions
  • Willingness to perform administrative follow-up, including completing reports and addendums
  • Local candidates preferred; travel costs are included within rates
