The Iowa Primary Care Association is actively recruiting a Chief Medical Officer for a community health center, also called a federally qualified health center, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Position Details:

As the Chief Medical Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing and leading the clinical operations of the outpatient health centers.
  • Providing direct care to patients.
  • Working closely with the healthcare team which includes behavioral health and pharmacy.
  • Developing and implementing clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ensuing compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with local healthcare providers and community partners.
  • Providing clinical supervision and mentorship to staff and collaborating with the executive team to develop and implement strategies to improve patient outcomes and access to care.

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution
  • Active license to practice medicine in Iowa and board certification in a relevant specialty.
  • Leadership experience in a clinical setting.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and expertise, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Above all, you must be committed to serving the underserved and vulnerable populations in our community.

Health Center Overview:

This community health center provides healthcare and supportive services to all, regardless of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay.

Based on the needs of the communities they serve, this community health center offers a spectrum of medical and dental services including family practice, behavioral health, HIV care and services, services for people experiencing homelessness, and pharmacy. Enabling services are available to help patients with benefits enrollment, case management, transportation, translation, and patient education. There are various site locations in the Des Moines metropolitan area for this community health center.

Coming in 2023: This community health center will be moving to a centralized, best-in-class electronic health record, Epic. This will take place along with 10 other community health centers in Iowa. This nearly statewide collaboration is a new, unique national model, and will provide an integrated, standard, and comprehensive EHR system to support Iowa’s community health centers in both rural and urban areas of the state.
