Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Internal/Family Medicine Physician to join our healthcare team within Student Health Services at a renowned university located in Suffolk County, NY. You will be providing medical oversight and clinical supervision within Student Health Services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based healthcare for the university community. This role includes direct patient care, supervision of clinical staff, and assisting in shaping student health initiatives. This is a low volume/low stress opportunity.
The pay range for this position is flexible and starts at $150-$170/hour (Negotiable based on experience)
Job Responsibilities
- Primary and Urgent Care: Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, provide preventive care, and coordinate specialty referrals.
- Sexual & Reproductive Health: Perform pelvic exams, Pap smears, STI screening and treatment, contraception counseling, ensuring a culturally competent environment that serves students of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities.
- Health Screenings & Preventive Care: Conduct sports physicals, study abroad exams, and general wellness visits for students.
- Mental Health Support: Collaborate with University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to manage mental health concerns and ensure integrated care.
- Health Education & Outreach: Lead student health education initiatives, including sexual health, preventive care, and harm reduction strategies.
- Emergency Response & Triage: Provide urgent care for student injuries and illnesses, ensuring proper referrals when needed.
- Electronic Health Records (EHR) & Compliance: Maintain accurate, timely medical documentation and adhere to New York State electronic prescribing requirements.
Administrative/Leadership:
- Clinical Supervision & Peer Review: Oversee and support nurse practitioners, registered physician assistant, registered nurses, and clinical staff, ensuring adherence to evidence-based care.
- Medical Protocol & Policy Development: Maintain and update clinical guidelines, standing orders, and policies in compliance with New York State regulations.
- Training & Professional Development: Provide clinical training for staff and students, oversee academic medical rotations, and participate in continuing education.
- Quality Improvement & Compliance: Lead chart reviews, risk management initiatives, and patient safety programs to enhance the quality of care.
- Public Health & Campus Wellness Programs: Collaborate on university-wide health initiatives, prevention efforts, and public health campaigns.
Professional Development/Committee Involvement:
- Participates in opportunities that promote their learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
- Contributes to the Division of Student Affairs and the University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside the Office of Student Life (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, and programs).
Qualifications
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
- Clinical experience in primary care, including management of acute and chronic conditions.
- Experience in clinical supervision
- Training and experience in performing pelvic exams, Pap smears, and STI screening/treatment. Experience with preventive care, contraception counseling, and reproductive health services.
- DEA License
- CPR/BLS certification

Duration: 5 months (potential to extend)

Skills
- Experience with LGBTQ+ inclusive care, and PrEP prescribing.
- Supervisory or leadership experience in a clinical setting.
- Additional board certification in adolescent medicine, women’s health, or sports medicine.
- ACLS certification
