Join UCSF Health as a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician -- Evidence-Based Care, Academic Excellence
The UCSF Department of Orthopedic Surgery seeks a board-eligible or board-certified Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician skilled in diagnosing and managing sports medicine conditions in children and adults. Expertise in musculoskeletal ultrasound, team and event coverage, and a strong interest in academic sports medicine are required. Appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the HS Clinical, Clinical X, or In-Residence series. 

The role includes clinical care, teaching, research, and program development across UCSF’s Orthopedic Institute and affiliated sites. Responsibilities include educating learners as core faculty in the UCSF Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and contributing to scholarship through clinical or translational research. Leadership opportunities are available in both educational and clinical programs.

  • Clinical expertise in Landmark-guided and ultrasound-guided Injections and other non-surgical experience

Requirements:
  • A valid California medical license will be required as a condition of employment.
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited program.
  • Completed an accredited residency program in one of the following specialties: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Completed Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship
  • Board certified or eligible with one of the following: American Board of Family Medicine; American Board of Internal Medicine; American Board of Pediatrics; American Board of Emergency Medicine; American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Board-certified or eligible Primary Care Sports Medicine certification
  • Clinical expertise to diagnose and manage the full spectrum of sports medicine conditions affecting both children and adults.
  • Expertise in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
  • Experience in team coverage.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay, determined by academic rank and step at the time of appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary for this position is $154,700. This position is governed by the UC Health Sciences Compensation Plan, APM-670 [Register to View] which allows for eligibility for negotiated additional compensation. As such, the total negotiated salary (including base and negotiated components) can be significantly higher and can range up to $900,000, depending on individual qualifications, clinical productivity, and other factors assessed at the time of offer.
