The Opportunity

If you're picking up shifts around a primary job, a fellowship, or a life you'd rather not rearrange, the department matters more than the rate. Saint John runs about 34 visits a day across 13 beds — a pace you can walk into cold and work safely without three days of ramp-up. It's the only community hospital serving Leavenworth, Lansing and Fort Leavenworth, so the case mix stays genuinely interesting. Take the shifts that fit. We'd rather have you eight times a year than not at all.

What You'll Own

• 12-hour shifts, single physician coverage with an APP on a mid-shift.
• About 34 visits a day and roughly 5 admissions — steady, not punishing.
• Certified Acute Stroke Ready, with telemetry, CCU and medical floors behind you.
• Epic with Dragon, so you're not fighting an unfamiliar chart at 3am.

Must-Haves

• MD or DO
• ABEM or AOBEM board certification
• Active Kansas license, or eligibility in process
• Genuine comfort as the sole physician in a community ED

Nice to Have

• Existing Kansas license — moves you through credentialing faster
• Availability for night or weekend blocks
• Prior Epic experience

• Licensure is faster than you expect if you're coming from out of state. Kansas participates in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, so if you already hold a qualifying license elsewhere, adding this one typically runs one to three weeks rather than months.

Straight Talk

You'll be the only physician on. PRN here isn't shadowing a full-timer — you own the department for those 12 hours. That suits people who've done community emergency medicine and want the autonomy without the FTE.
