Position Overview

Whiteriver Indian Health Service Hospital's Emergency Department is seeking a U.S.-citizen Emergency Medicine Physician to provide ad hoc clinical coverage under a Personal Services Contract (PSC) with the Indian Health Service (IHS). Coverage is scheduled 3舑?4 months in advance based on facility need and physician availability, with 12-hour shifts available across day, mid, and night rotations. This is a base-year contract with two 12-month option periods (potential term through September 2029, plus a possible 6-month extension).

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct emergency medicine clinical care to patients presenting to the Whiteriver IHS Hospital Emergency Department

Work scheduled shifts as assigned by the COR/Supervisor, including regular daytime shifts and premium night, weekend, holiday, or call-back coverage as needed

Coordinate with hospital clinical staff to ensure continuity of care during evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends

Maintain documentation and reporting consistent with hospital and IHS clinical standards

Comply with all applicable federal, IHS, and facility credentialing, safety, and security requirements

Qualifications & Experience

Active, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in Arizona (or ability to obtain prior to start)

Board certification or board eligibility in Emergency Medicine

Current DEA registration

Current BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications (or equivalent, as required by the facility)

Ability to pass required federal background investigation and character/security screening, including screening required under the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (P.L. 101-630)

U.S. citizenship (required for this solicitation)

Compensation

$300 an hour plus travel and lodging or $335 all inclusive (your choice), depending on experience, certifications, and shift type (regular daytime coverage vs. premium night, weekend, holiday, or call-back coverage). Actual travel and lodging costs for qualifying assignments are reimbursed separately at actual cost, consistent with Federal Travel Regulation per diem guidelines, and are not included in the hourly rate above.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit:

  • Resume/CV that explicitly addresses every minimum qualification listed (MD license, EM board cert/eligibility, DEA, BLS/ACLS/ATLS, US citizenship)
  • Two professional references — name, relationship, email, phone number

We are an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment process. Accommodation is available upon request at any stage of the hiring process.
