Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician for a locum tenens opportunity in Norwich, Connecticut. This assignment is being opened to provide ongoing Emergency Department coverage due to a physician retirement.

The ideal candidate will be ABEM board certified, comfortable practicing independently during overnight hours, and proficient in standard Emergency Department procedures. Local or drive-in candidates will receive priority consideration.

Schedule

• Night shift: 11:00 PM – 9:00 AM

• Approximately 32 hours per week

• Schedule will typically alternate between:

  • 3 shifts one week

  • 4 shifts the following week

• Work week runs Sunday through Saturday

• No on-call responsibilities

• Assignment anticipated to begin in late December 2026 or early January 2027

• Assignment runs through May 31, 2027

Emergency Department Details

• Approximately 54,000 annual patient visits

• Average of approximately 15 patients per shift

• 24-hour APP coverage

• Dual physician coverage from 7:00 AM – 2:00 AM

• Physician will provide single physician coverage from 2:00 AM – 7:00 AM

• Standard Emergency Department procedures are required

Requirements

• ABEM certification required

• Emergency Medicine physician

• Comfortable with overnight Emergency Department coverage

• Proficiency with standard ED procedures

• Ability to work independently during single-coverage hours

• Prior travel/locum experience preferred

• Local or drive-in candidates will be prioritized

Overtime Structure

• Daily overtime applies after 10 hours, based on the fixed contractual rate

• Weekly overtime applies after 168 hours, based on the fixed contractual rate
