Locums - Ocala, Florida | Emergency Medicine Opportunity

Clinical Role

Join an established emergency medicine program in Ocala, Florida, providing care across multiple emergency department and freestanding emergency department sites. This long-term locums opportunity offers flexible scheduling, strong APP support, and the opportunity to work in a collaborative academic emergency medicine environment.

Assignment Details

Start Date:

ASAP

Contract Length:

Until further notice, with anticipated duration of one to two years

Reason for Coverage:

Staffing shortage

Schedule:

12-hour physician shifts:

7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Additional eight-hour shifts available daily at select locations

Orientation:

Morning orientation on the first shadow shift

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Practice Setting:

Hospital emergency departments

Freestanding emergency departments (FSEDs)

Facility Information:

31-bed emergency department

Level II Trauma Center

ASC Level I Trauma designation

Patient Volume:

Freestanding emergency departments typically average approximately two patients per hour

Main emergency departments have variable patient volumes

Common Patient Presentations:

Freestanding emergency departments:

Primarily Emergency Severity Index (ESI) Level 3, 4, and 5 patients

Common presentations include:

Abdominal pain

Chest pain

General medical complaints

Main emergency departments:

Broader acuity spectrum depending on assignment

Clinical Responsibilities:

Emergency department evaluation and management

Medical stabilization and treatment

Procedural care

Collaboration with APPs, residents, and hospital staff

Emergency consultations and admissions

Required Procedures:

Central venous access

Arterial line placement

Lumbar puncture

Endotracheal intubation

Cardiac pacing

Orthopedic stabilization

Comprehensive emergency procedures

Support & Technology

Support Staff:

Advanced practice provider coverage varies by location and shift

Emergency medicine residency program

APP training program

Collaborative emergency department teams

Requirements

Board Eligible or Board Certified in Emergency Medicine following completion of an accredited emergency medicine residency program – Accepted

Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physicians with a minimum of three years of emergency medicine experience – Accepted for freestanding emergency department coverage only

Proficiency in all emergency medicine procedures – Required
