Locums - Ocala, Florida | Emergency Medicine Opportunities

Clinical Role

Join a large emergency medicine program in Ocala, Florida, providing coverage across multiple emergency department locations, including freestanding emergency departments (FSEDs) and hospital-based emergency departments. This long-term locums opportunity offers flexible scheduling, strong APP support, and teaching opportunities through established residency and APP training programs.

Assignment Details

Start Date:

  • ASAP

Duration:

  • Ongoing, with anticipated need of 1–2 years

Schedule:

  • Primarily 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM shifts
  • Two additional 8-hour shifts available daily at select locations

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Practice Settings:

  • Hospital-based emergency departments
  • Freestanding emergency departments (FSEDs)

Facility Information:

  • Primary emergency department includes 31 beds

Patient Volume:

  • FSEDs average approximately two patients per hour
  • Main hospital emergency departments vary by location and acuity level

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Emergency department evaluation and treatment
  • Management of low, moderate, and higher acuity emergency presentations
  • Performance of emergency procedures as needed
  • Collaboration with APPs, residents, and hospital staff

Common Patient Presentations:

Freestanding EDs:

  • Primarily ESI Level 3–5 patients
  • Lower-acuity emergency presentations

Ocala/Main Hospital Sites:

  • Predominantly ESI Level 3 patients
  • Common complaints include abdominal pain, chest pain, and general medical emergencies
  • Providers are generally not assigned to the highest-acuity sections unless specifically requested

Required Procedures:

  • Central venous access
  • Arterial line placement
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Endotracheal intubation
  • Cardiac pacing
  • Orthopedic stabilization
  • Comprehensive emergency medicine procedures

Support & Technology

Support Staff:

  • APP coverage varies by site and shift
  • Emergency Medicine residency program
  • APP training program
  • Full emergency department support staff

Requirements

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Emergency Medicine following completion of an accredited residency – Required
  • Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physicians with a minimum of three years of Emergency Medicine experience will be considered for freestanding emergency department coverage only
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all emergency medicine procedures – Required
