UPMC Bedford – Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM/AOBEM)
UPMC Bedford is seeking a Board-Certified or truly Board-Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM/AOBEM only) to join our Level III Trauma Center. This role offers a manageable patient volume, strong specialty support, and a collaborative environment alongside experienced APPs.
Key Qualifications

MD/DO from an accredited medical school
-
ABEM/AOBEM BC or truly BE (no exceptions)

Active Pennsylvania medical license
-
Stroke certification required during credentialing (not needed at submission)

Minimum 2 years of Emergency Medicine experience preferred

Ability to collaborate with and sign off on APPs
Clinical Environment
-
Annual volume: ~18–19K visits
-
Average daily volume: ~51 patients per 24 hours
-
Coverage model:
-
24 hours/day physician coverage
-
12 hours/day APP coverage
-
Work alongside an APP with sign-off responsibilities
-
-
Shift expectation: ~4 shifts/month (7a–7p or 7p–7a)

Patient load: ~1–2 patients/hour
-
Trauma level: Level III Trauma Center

No ventilator management
-
Admissions coordinated through Hospitalist and Specialty teams
Specialty Support

24/7 trauma service covering acute care general surgery
-
On-call specialties include Neurology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology (with cath lab), OBGYN, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, Plastics, GI, Hem/Onc, CT Surgery, Intensivist, Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Hospitalist, Podiatry, Thoracic Surgery, Vascular

24/7 crisis counselors for psychiatric evaluations
