The Emergency Department is generally described as providing initial evaluation and treatment for sudden illness or injury, stabilizing patients, and coordinating transfers if higher-level care is needed.

As a Critical Access Hospital, LCH’s ED typically manages emergency medical care locally and works with ambulance/EMS services and, when necessary, arranges transport to larger regional hospitals for specialized or intensive care.

Diagnostic imaging & laboratory services
Rehabilitation (physical/occupational therapy)
Swing bed care (skilled nursing care)
Qualifications
Must have TN license or IMLC
Boards not required
Working Hours
Skills
Chest pain, stroke symptoms, sepsis
Respiratory distress (including intubation)
Abdominal pain & surgical emergencies
OB/GYN emergencies (early pregnancy bleeding, precipitous delivery)
Pediatric emergencies (fever, respiratory distress, trauma)
You’re often the only provider in-house — comfort with independent decision-making is key.
Trauma & Resuscitation
ATLS-based trauma assessment
Airway management (intubation, supraglottic airways)
Central lines & IO access
Chest tubes
ACLS & PALS resuscitation
In a rural ED, you stabilize first and transfer second — strong resuscitation skills are critical.
