Exciting locum tenens opportunity for a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician seeking a balanced, low-volume practice setting. This role offers a unique combination of Emergency Department coverage and inpatient management within a supportive rural hospital environment.
With minimal daily ED volume and manageable inpatient census, this position is ideal for physicians who value quality patient interactions, clinical autonomy, and a steady 24-hour in-house schedule.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage low-volume ED cases (average 4 patients per day)
• Oversee inpatient admissions including observation and acute cases
• Deliver in-house 24-hour coverage
• Document patient encounters using EPIC EMR
• Collaborate with nursing staff and advanced practice providers
• Ensure high-quality, patient-centered care
Qualifications
• Active Iowa Medical License
• Clean malpractice and background history
• Recent NPDB self-query
• Strong emergency stabilization and inpatient management skills
Working Hours
• Minimum 3 shifts per pay period
• Occasional 12-hour shifts
• Weekend coverage as needed
Skills
• Inpatient rounding and admissions management
• Independent clinical decision-making
• Proficiency with EPIC EMR
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Rural and critical access hospital experience preferred
