We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician for a locum tenens opportunity in Dyersville, Iowa. This position offers 24-hour in-house emergency coverage in a low-volume critical access hospital, making it an excellent fit for physicians who value autonomy, predictable workflows, and a balanced clinical pace.
The role combines Emergency Department coverage with limited inpatient responsibilities, supported by a dedicated nursing team, on-site imaging, laboratory, and pharmacy services. The facility utilizes EPIC-based EMR, ensuring streamlined documentation and continuity of care.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage low-volume Emergency Department cases
• Perform medical screening exams, diagnosis, treatment, and stabilization
• Provide inpatient care for observation, acute, and swing-bed patients as needed
• Admit, round on, and discharge inpatients appropriately
• Respond to emergency cases during in-house call coverage
• Collaborate with nursing staff, ancillary services, and clinical teams
• Document all encounters accurately in the electronic medical record
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and emergency care standards
Qualifications
• OR Board Certified FP or IM with recent Emergency Medicine experience
• Active Iowa medical license
• Clean malpractice and background history
• NPDB self-query within required timeframe
• Ability to commit to scheduled 24-hour shifts
• Strong clinical judgment and independent decision-making skills
Working Hours
• Minimum of multiple 24-hour shifts per pay period
• Occasional 12-hour shifts as needed
• Weekend and weekday coverage as required
