Position: Emergency Medicine Physician
Location: Columbia, SC 29209
Schedule: 24/7 coverage; shifts vary
Duration: Full time Position
Position Summary
We are seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physicians to provide high-quality, timely care in a fast-paced Emergency Department. Physicians will deliver comprehensive emergency medical services, including evaluation, stabilization, treatment, and disposition of patients across the full acuity spectrum.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
• Provide evaluation, resuscitation, stabilization, diagnosis, and disposition of emergency patients.
• Manage acute and emergent conditions across all body systems, including medical, surgical, psychiatric, and traumatic presentations.
• Perform minor and major emergency procedures when clinically appropriate.
Procedures May Include
• Minor procedures: wound care, laceration repair, incision and drainage, splinting, catheterization, peripheral IV placement, gastric lavage, and spinal immobilization.
• Advanced procedures: central venous and arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, needle thoracostomy, endotracheal intubation, cardioversion/defibrillation, lumbar puncture, procedural sedation, fracture/dislocation reduction, pericardiocentesis, temporary pacing, and cricothyrotomy.
Collaboration & Care Coordination
• Supervise and collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers.
• Review and approve inpatient admissions and ensure appropriate provider-to-provider handoffs.
• Provide consultations and communicate treatment plans with referring clinicians.
• Initiate appropriate referrals, including social services, as indicated.
• Ensure accurate and timely communication of diagnostic test results.
Patient Education & Safety
• Provide discharge instructions and follow-up education tailored to the patient’s next level of care.
• Adhere to all medication policies and clinical protocols.
Scheduling & Coverage
• Physicians must arrive on time and be present for all scheduled shifts.
• Availability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Shift times and lengths may vary based on operational needs.
• Approximately 95% of time spent in direct patient care.
Qualifications
Required
• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine
• Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
• National Provider Identifier (NPI)
• DEA Registration
• No history of license restriction, suspension, revocation, or exclusion
• Successful background and exclusion list checks
