This Emergency Medicine locums opportunity in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan is ideal for an experienced, locally based physician seeking consistent shifts in a supportive community emergency department. This ongoing need is driven by a recruitment gap and offers dependable scheduling beginning March 2026.

Assignment Details
  • Start Date: March 1, 2026

  • Duration: Ongoing

  • Shift Schedule:

    • 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM

    • 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM

    • Coverage needed 7 days per week

  • Reason for Coverage: Recruitment gap

Emergency Department Snapshot
  • Annual ED Volume: ~20,000 visits

  • Average Daily Volume: 54 patients

  • ED Beds: 18

  • Trauma Designation: Provisional Level IV

  • Fast Track: No

  • EHR: Cerner

Staffing & Support

Physician Team:

  • 4 full-time physicians

  • 1 part-time physician

APP Coverage:

  • 1 full-time mid-level

  • 2 PRN mid-levels

Supervision:

  • Locums physician will supervise the mid-level provider on duty

Hospital & Clinical Support

Admissions:

  • Hospitalists primarily manage admissions

  • ED physicians may place limited bridge orders when needed

House Codes:

  • ED staff responds to house codes

  • Codes are secondary to ED emergencies

  • Hospitalists run codes

  • Anesthesia available during the day for backup

  • ED physicians provide airway support

Consultants Available:

  • Cardiologist

EKG Interpretation:

  • Official reads completed by cardiology

  • ER physicians sign printed EKGs

Ancillary Services

Radiology (24/7):

  • CT and X-ray available

  • No MRI

  • Laboratory: 24-hour availability

  • Blood Bank: AABB certified

  • Pathology: Available

Surgical Services:

  • Orthopedic surgery available 24/7

  • L&D: Clinic-based

EMS & Transfer Capabilities

Ambulance Services:

  • MMR; response times vary and may be delayed, even for critical transfers

Air Transport:

  • Helicopter services available through another facility and Corewell GR

  • Typical response time: 20–30 minutes

ED Role:

  • Responsible for monitoring and supervising paramedics/ambulance via radio

Patient Flow Metrics
  • Admissions from ED: 90% of hospital admissions

  • ED Admission Rate: 8%

  • ED Transfer Rate: 2%

Candidate Requirements (Required)
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine or Family Practice with 2+ years ER experience

  • Local provider only – no exceptions

  • Active Michigan medical license (IMLC not accepted)

  • DEA – verbal confirmation required

  • ATLS/PALS required for non-EM boarded physicians
