Job description
A hospital-based emergency department in Lansing, Michigan is seeking a Locum Emergency Medicine Physician to provide PRN coverage starting March 1, 2026. This role supports coverage during a recruitment gap and offers flexible scheduling through a float pool model, where available shifts are shared once the provider is approved.
The department is a high-volume Level III trauma center with strong nursing and APP support. The physician will provide comprehensive emergency care and supervise advanced practice providers as required.
We are actively building a Float Pool of Emergency Medicine Physicians to cover PRN locum shifts across multiple hospital-based Emergency Departments in Michigan, including:
📍 Mt Pleasant
📍 Lansing
📍 Bay City
📍 Grand Ledge
📍 West Branch
Once accepted into the float pool, open shifts will be shared via email.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage high-acuity and high-volume emergency department cases
• Supervise APPs and residents during assigned shifts
• Perform emergency medicine procedures as needed
• Evaluate, stabilize, treat, and determine patient disposition
• Collaborate with nursing, hospitalists, and ancillary staff
• Accurately document all encounters using EMR
• Deliver timely, patient-centered emergency care
Qualifications
• Active Michigan medical license at time of name clear (IMLC not accepted)
• BLS required
• Prior emergency department experience highly preferred
• Local candidate required
• Clean background for expedited credentialing
• NPDB Self-Query required (pulled within 30 days at presentation)
Working Hours
• Weekday shifts include:
o 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
o 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
o 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
o 4:00 PM – 2:00 AM
o 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM
• Weekend shifts include:
o 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
o 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
o 4:00 PM – 2:00 AM
o 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM
• Weekend coverage required
• No on-call responsibilities
