The VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia is seeking experienced Locum Tenens Emergency Medicine Physicians to provide comprehensive, on-site care in a 24/7 Emergency Department serving U.S. Veterans. Physicians will evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of acute medical and traumatic conditions, perform emergent and urgent procedures, initiate resuscitation and stabilization, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and determine appropriate patient disposition including admission, discharge, or transfer. The role requires independent clinical decision-making, collaboration with nursing staff and consulting services, clear communication with patients and families, and accurate documentation within the VA electronic medical record, with the majority of time dedicated to direct patient care in a structured, supportive clinical environment.
Job Responsibilities
Perform emergent and urgent procedures, including airway management, wound repair, fracture stabilization, and resuscitation
Order, interpret, and act on laboratory and diagnostic imaging studies to guide patient care
Determine appropriate patient disposition, including admission, discharge, or stabilization and transfer to higher levels of care
Collaborate with nursing staff, consultants, and ancillary services while maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
Qualifications
OR
Board Certified Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with significant ED experience
*With minimum 5 years of Emergency Medicine experience (experience must be within the last 24 months)
Active, unrestricted U.S. medical license (any state)
DEA registration
BLS & ACLS required (PALS preferred)
Must meet VA credentialing requirements
Working Hours
Structured shifts ensuring continuous ED coverage, (3) 8 hour intervals available
Assignment starting early 2026 with ongoing potential
Skills
Proficiency in emergency procedures, resuscitation, and stabilization of critically ill or injured patients
Strong diagnostic skills with the ability to efficiently evaluate undifferentiated complaints
Effective communication and teamwork within a multidisciplinary emergency care environment
Commitment to accurate documentation, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols and standards
