Locum Emergency Medicine Physician

Seeking Locum Emergency Medicine physicians to join a float pool covering PRN shifts during a recruitment gap. Accepted providers will receive open shift availability via email.

Facility Overview

• Level III Trauma Center

• Annual ED volume: ~40,000 visits

• Average 110 patients per day

• 42-bed Emergency Department

• EMR: Cerner

• Fast Track in ED staffed by APPs (accounts for ~15% of ED volume)

• Approximately 22% of ED patients admitted daily

• Less than 1% of ED patients transferred

• About 70% of hospital admissions originate from the ED

Staffing & Support

• Full nursing support

• 12 hours of APP coverage daily

• Emergency Medicine residents present

• Locum physician will supervise APPs and residents

• ED staff do not respond to house codes

• Hospitalists write admission orders

Clinical Scope & Required Skills

• Broad emergency medicine skill set, including adult, pediatric, and geriatric care

• Newborn resuscitation

• Orthopedic injury management (non-displaced fractures)

• Minor procedures (suturing, incision & drainage)

• Psychiatric evaluations (uncomplicated cases across age groups)

• Airway management and ventilation (up to 24 hours without pulmonary consult)

• Hemodynamic and volume management

• Central and arterial line placement

• EKG interpretation

• Arthrocentesis, lumbar puncture, paracentesis

• Full range of standard emergency medicine procedures

Technology & Workflow

• Reverse billing system; providers must clock in/out using DocTime

• No paper timesheets accepted

Requirements

• Board Certified in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM only; no BE)

• Active Michigan medical license (IMLC not accepted)

• BLS certification

• Prior ED experience highly preferred

• Must be a local provider (required)

• Clean background for expedited credentialing

• NPDB self-query within 30 days at presentation
