Locum Emergency Medicine Physician

Seeking a Board-Certified Locum Emergency Medicine Physician to provide ongoing coverage into 2026 due to a recruitment gap. Providers will join a Float Pool covering open PRN shifts, with available dates distributed via email once accepted.

Practice Setting & Volume

  • Emergency Department with 18 beds

  • Annual ED volume: ~20,000 visits

  • Average daily volume: ~54 patients

  • Trauma designation: Provisional Level IV

  • EHR: Cerner

  • Admissions: ~8% admitted, ~2% transferred

  • No Fast Track

Staffing & Support

  • ED team includes 4 full-time physicians, 1 PRN physician

  • APP support: 1 full-time midlevel and 2 PRN

  • Locum physician supervises the midlevel on duty

  • ED responds to house codes; hospitalist leads codes with anesthesia available for backup

  • Hospitalist manages admissions; ED provides limited bridging orders when needed

Clinical Services & Resources

  • 24/7 availability: CT, X-ray, lab, blood bank (AABB-certified), pathology, OR

  • No MRI availability

  • Surgical services: Orthopedics

  • Consultants available: Cardiology

  • EKGs officially interpreted by cardiology

  • Air transport available (20–30 minutes); ground transport times vary

  • Referral network includes McLaren Bay and Lansing; additional regional facilities utilized as needed

Responsibilities

  • Emergency care for adult and pediatric patients

  • Supervision of midlevel providers

  • Participation in codes with airway support

  • EMS radio oversight and coordination of transfers

Credentialing & Requirements

  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine or Family Practice with 2+ years ER experience

  • Michigan license required (IMLC not accepted)

  • Local providers only

  • Clean background for expedited credentialing

  • ATLS and PALS required for non–EM boarded physicians

  • Estimated credentialing timeframe: ~90 days

Additional Notes

  • Site uses reverse billing; providers clock in/out via DocTime

  • Board certification required; no exceptions
