We are seeking a Locum Emergency Medicine Physician for an onsite opportunity in Dyersville, Iowa 🌾. This role features 24-hour shifts (7a–7a) with extremely low patient volume, inpatient coverage, and in-house call with a private sleep room 🛏️—perfect for physicians seeking excellent work-life balance.
This is a rural critical access hospital serving a friendly, close-knit community with strong clinical and nursing support.
Job Responsibilities
Provide Emergency Department coverage with an average of ~4 ED patients/day 🚑
Manage inpatient responsibilities including observation, acute, and swing-bed patients 🏥
Provide in-house call coverage during 24-hour shifts (sleep room provided)
Work collaboratively with RNs and ancillary staff 🤝
Document care using an EPIC-based EMR 💻
No supervision of APPs required ✅
Qualifications
Board Certified ABEM or FP/IM with recent Emergency Medicine experience
Active Iowa medical license or IMLC eligibility
Comfortable providing ED and inpatient coverage
Ability to work 24-hour onsite shifts (7a–7a)
Clean malpractice and background history
Working Hours
24-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM
Occasional 12-hour shifts as needed
In-house call during 24-hour shifts
Minimum 3 shifts per pay period
Skills
Strong Emergency Medicine clinical skills in a low-volume setting 🚑
Ability to manage ED and inpatient care independently 🏥
Confident in critical decision-making and triage
Experience working in rural or critical access hospitals preferred 🌾
Efficient and accurate clinical documentation using EMR systems 💻
Excellent communication and collaboration with nursing and ancillary staff 🤝
Adaptability to 24-hour onsite shifts with in-house call coverage 🛏️
