We are seeking a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician to provide locum tenens coverage in Elkader, Iowa. This opportunity offers a low-volume environment where the provider functions as the sole clinician covering both the Emergency Department and the Med/Surg floor.
Position Details
- Setting: Emergency Department + Med/Surg coverage
- Shift Type: Day Shifts
- Responsibilities:
- Serve as the sole provider managing all ED and inpatient Med/Surg needs
- Evaluate, treat, and stabilize patients in a rural ED setting
- Perform rounding, admissions, and basic inpatient management
- Collaborate with nursing and support staff to ensure high-quality patient care
Patient & Practice Information
- ER Volume: ~3.6 patients per day
- Med/Surg Census: ~1.4 patients per day
- EMR: EPIC
Requirements
- Board Certified (EM, FM, or IM depending on facility requirements)
- Active Iowa Medical License
- Active DEA and Iowa Controlled Substance Registration (CSR)
- Prior experience in low-volume or rural emergency settings preferred
