Position Description: Emergency Medicine Medical Director
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Medical Director to provide clinical and operational leadership for a high-acuity emergency department in San Antonio, TX. This role offers the opportunity to oversee daily ED operations, supervise staff, and collaborate with hospital leadership while shaping the department’s growth and excellence.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage day-to-day operations of the emergency department.

Provide clinical oversight and professional guidance to physicians, NPs, and PAs.

Ensure adherence to hospital policies, bylaws, and quality standards.

Serve as a liaison between the ED and hospital administration.

Represent the department in community and institutional initiatives.

Support operational improvements, patient flow, and departmental efficiency.

Job Responsibilities
Oversee daily ED operations in collaboration with nursing and hospital leadership.
Supervise emergency medicine staff including physicians, NPs, and PAs according to hospital policies and bylaws.
Provide clinical leadership and guidance to ensure high-quality patient care.
Represent the ED within the hospital, professional community, and local healthcare networks.
Support operational efficiency by improving patient flow, resource allocation, and departmental processes.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to performance metrics.
Collaborate with hospital administration on strategic planning, budgeting, and departmental growth.
Qualifications
Board-Certified or Board-Prepared in Emergency Medicine.
Prior leadership or medical director experience preferred.
Proven clinical expertise in emergency medicine with strong decision-making skills.
Operational and administrative experience managing ED workflows, staff, and departmental processes.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and foster a culture of high-quality patient care.
Familiarity with EMR systems (e.g., Cerner FirstNet) and healthcare documentation standards.
Commitment to patient safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Working Hours
Shifts: 8–10 hours per day (based on ED volume trends)
Schedule: Flexible, with collaboration alongside hospital leadership to cover operational needs
Coverage: Support for night shifts, weekends, and holidays as required by department staffing
APP Collaboration: NPs and PAs practice independently; physicians collaborate as needed
