Job description

Job description Emergency Medicine staff work directly with, including but not limited to, other physicians, nursing staff, administrative staff, and social workers. The Emergency Department (ED) operates 24/7 and the selectee will be involved in the evaluation, treatment, and management of patients requiring acute medical and specialty care.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: emergent intake, patient assessment, patient history, physical examinations, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, emergent resuscitation, and management of difficult airways.
The Physician interprets ECGs and selected radiographic tests; performs invasive procedures for which incumbent is credentialed; initiates consults as well as referrals after discharge from the Emergency Department, and prescribes medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy and VA formulary and State regulations.
Perform assessments/examinations on initial encounter with unscheduled, emergency and new patients.
Coordinate patient treatment plans (involve Primary Care and specialists as appropriate).
Order appropriate diagnostic tests as necessary to complete the evaluation.
Admit patients to the hospital or discharge them from the ED with appropriate follow-up.
Perform medication reconciliation with all ED discharged patients.
Participate in Quality Assurance, chart reviews, and support applicable ED performance measures.
Coordinate patient care with consultants as deemed appropriate.
Provide physician oversight to nursing staff and other mid-level staff members.
Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
Attend physician staff meetings
The selectee must demonstrate continuing effort to keep abreast of new medical developments and medical literature, and must meet facility and licensing requirements for continuing medical education (CME).

Working Hours

Tours of duty include rotating 8 and 12 hour shifts for twenty-four hours per day/seven days per week coverage; however, subject to change, depending on the needs of the service/medical center
