Healthcare system in outdoor Maine paradise seeks BC/BE Emergency Medicine Physician to work in our 24-hour ED which sees about 16,000 visits per year.

Emergency Department (ED):

  • Level II trauma center
  • Sees a wide variety of cases
  • Major trauma, cardiac, neurosurgery, and critical cases transported to a tertiary care center
  • Specially trained physicians and nursing staff in emergency medicine
  • One trauma room and 11 exam rooms
  • PA or Nurse Practitioner may see less urgent cases

Physician Schedules:

  • Develop their own schedules
  • Generally work three 12-hour shifts one week, four the next
  • Flexible staffing model: per diem, part-time; welcomes working site visits

Medical Center:

  • One of four rural hospitals in Aroostook County
  • Highest Emergency Medicine volume among the four hospitals
  • Majority of ER patients are elderly with cardiac and respiratory complaints
  • Patient transfers include psychiatric, trauma, neurosurgical, and emergency cardiac situations
  • Utilizes a fixed-wing air ambulance service to Bangor, Maine (40-minute in-air time)

Employment Details:

  • ER physicians are hospital employees
  • Paid on an hourly basis (negotiable based on experience)
  • Hospital covers a portion of health insurance
  • Full payment of malpractice insurance
  • $600/year for professional licensing and subscriptions
  • Six weeks of vacation, CME, sick, and holiday time annually
  • CME support up to $2,500 per year
  • Relocation assistance provided
  • Education loan repayment in six-month increments over the initial agreement's life
  • All of our primary care health centers are approved for participation in the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayer program.
  • Immigration assistance provided by expert legal counsel is provided at the expense of the practice for candidates needing a J-1 waiver, H-1B visa or permanent resident (green) card.
