Texas Children’s Hospital – Austin, TX seeks an experienced physician with a proven clinical and leadership track record to serve as the Medical Director of Congenital Cardiac Surgery.

The Department of Cardiology at Texas Children’s Hospital in Austin, Texas is seeking an exceptional leader and provider to serve as the Medical Director of Congenital Cardiac Surgery, Within the highly respected Department of Congenital Heart Surgery.

Set to open in early 2024, our new state of the art full-service hospital in Austin will increase access to quality healthcare for children and women across central Texas. Join the Texas Children’s team expanding our standard of care for families across the state. This position is a rare opportunity to participate in the start, growth and expansion of a BRAND-NEW medical facility and campus aimed to serve the growing population of Austin Texas. This is a unique opportunity to build something from the ground up with the support and resources of a nationally ranked Children’s Hospital.

Position Highlights:

Join our nationally recognized team of pediatric specialists as we seek to hire a full-time clinical- leader in Congenital Heart Surgery at our new Austin, Texas location:

  • Provide leadership, support quality and safety, lead and maintain clinical excellence and innovation, and serve at a clinical, leader and administrative capacity within the division.
  • Oversee the opening and growth of the facility and department.
  • Offer a comprehensive surgical program that includes almost every procedure available for the treatment of pediatric heart disease and defects.
  • Care for children of every age, including preterm and low-birth-weight newborns, tailoring procedures and treatments to the needs of each individual child and his or her family.
  • During surgery, the individualized approach includes cardiopulmonary bypass and neuroprotection strategies customized to each patient’s condition and needs.
  • Among the heart problems treated include atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, tetralogy of Fallot and transposition of the great arteries.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience working as a Congenital Cardiac Surgeon post fellowship training.
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable with the management of a growing group of Congenital Cardiac Surgeons.
  • An academic record consistent with appointment as an assistant level or associate professor is desired given TCH’s affiliation with Baylor. However, this is NOT required for this position.
  • The ideal candidate will have a history of participation in research and the featured author in publications.
  • The ideal candidate will have a pioneer-like spirit that is flexible and comfortable with the challenges of starting and ramping up a new facility.
  • Applicants must have a Medical School Degree, relevant Residency and Fellowship training, and be Board Certified.
  • The selected candidate for the position must be eligible to obtain or already hold an active Texas medical
