On-Call Interventional Cardiology Physician

Salt Lake City, UT (VA Salt Lake City Health Care System) | On-Call / Part-Time | ~520 hours/year per physician (1,040 total hours/year across a minimum of 2 physicians)

Position Overview

We are seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Interventional Cardiologists to provide on-call physician coverage for the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS). This is not a daily on-site position — coverage combines scheduled clinic/OR hours (issued 30 days in advance by the Contracting Officer's Representative) with off-hours on-call availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays. A minimum of two credentialed physicians is required to share coverage across an estimated 1,040 total hours per year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-call Board Certified/Board Eligible interventional cardiology physician services on-site at VASLCHCS, in accordance with the clinic/OR schedule issued by the COR 30 days in advance.
  • Respond to off-hours calls (evenings, weekends, and holidays) within 5 minutes by phone and be on-site within 30 minutes when patient care requires it.
  • Deliver interventional cardiology care meeting current national standards established by the American College of Cardiology (ACC).
  • Maintain credentialing and privileging in accordance with VHA Directive 1100.20 (Credentialing) and 1100.21 (Privileging); complete VETPro credentialing documentation.
  • In the event of an inability to complete an assigned shift, coordinate replacement physician coverage within 2 hours and notify the COR immediately.
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and report continuing medical education (CME) hours as required.
  • Sign in/out for all on-site attendance and document care in accordance with VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) and VHA Directive 1907.01 requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Cardiology.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiology; must be licensed and board certified in Utah.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Physicians with a license ever restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action, or denied upon application will not be considered.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (or equivalency), kept up to date for the full period of performance.
  • Current professional/medical malpractice liability insurance.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Compensation

$461–$519/hour, depending on experience and certifications.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit: a current curriculum vitae (CV); proof of current, unrestricted state medical licensure; documentation of ABIM Cardiology board certification or board eligibility; current BLS/ACLS certification; a current professional/medical malpractice liability insurance certificate; and three (3) professional references (facility name, point of contact, phone, email, period of performance, and contract type) reflecting work of similar scope within the last three years.
