Job description
This is a locum tenens Interventional Cardiologist position providing inpatient care and call coverage. The role supports a potential gap due to a departing cardiology group and involves both scheduled daytime shifts and extensive on-call responsibilities. The physician will perform a range of interventional cardiology procedures and manage adult and geriatric patients in a hospital setting.
Dates / Schedule
- Coverage Period: May 1 – June 30, 2026
- Weekday Onsite Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Weekday On-Call: Monday–Friday, 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Weekend On-Call:
- Saturday 7:00 AM – Sunday 7:00 AM
- Sunday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM
- Specific May Call Dates: 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, 31
- Call Structure: STEMI call aligned with unassigned and noninvasive call
- Call Ratio: Approx. 9 VCS to 7 RHV (TBD)
Job Details / Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and on-call interventional cardiology coverage
- Perform procedures including:
- Balloon angioplasty, coronary angioplasty, PCI
- Heart catheterization and coronary angiograms
- Carotid artery stenting, atherectomy, embolic protection
- Medical management of vascular disease
- Manage >2 inpatient admissions per day
- Work alongside other interventional cardiologists (team coverage present)
- No supervisory responsibilities
- Use EPIC EMR system for documentation
- Facility details:
- 250 beds total, 30 ICU beds
- Adult and geriatric patient population
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Board Certified in Cardiology (Required)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (Required)
- Active Virginia medical license (Required)
- Clean malpractice history (Required)
- NPDB Self-Query report (dated within 30 days, required at submission)
- Experience performing a wide range of interventional cardiology procedures
