Job Description

Last Update: 3/05/24
Carilion Clinic is searching for an additional academic and clinical Electrophysiologist to allow for the continued growth of the cardiology services provided at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, our 703 bed Level 1 Trauma/Academic/Tertiary Care Center serving nearly one million in southwestern Virginia. Enjoy the benefits of being part of Carilion Clinic's nationally recognized regional cardiac network with an established and growing Cardiology section supported by a large primary care and specialty referral base. Responsibilities include coverage of the inpatient EP Service consisting of inpatient consults and rounding, coverage of the general Cardiology consult service, coverage of the EP lab to include performing lead extractions (lead management), pacemaker/defibrillator implants, EP studies and ablations, and the coverage of the outpatient Device Clinic which includes pacemaker/defibrillator interrogations and reprogramming when indicated and includes interpretation of holter/event monitors. The Device Clinic currently manages approximately 3,000 patients with implanted devices. The office practice is located in a newly renovated medical office building within walking distance of the hospital and is directly connected to the Imaging Center, which provides easy access and close proximity to hospital. EP call coverage is 1:4 and general cardiology call coverage is shared equally with the entire group. Required qualifications include Board Certification in Cardiology and Fellowship Training in Electrophysiology. Candidate must be experienced in all aspects of heart rhythm management.

Carilion Clinic’s Cardiovascular Institute will expand significantly over the next seven years with the organization investing over 1 billion on capital improvements, including 200 million to equip the new Crystal Spring Tower dedicated to providing care for emergency and heart patients as well as behavioral health. The building is slated to open in 2025. The new signature building will have 4 stories and 100 beds dedicated to cardiovascular patients and will serve as the largest cardiac catherization lab in our region focusing on heart bypass surgery and an aortic center including aortic valve surgery and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair along with heart failure and COPD. We are committed to pioneering a new era in cardiovascular health by building knowledge through research and education.

Carilion Clinic, a community-based, integrated health system is an organization where innovation happens, collaboration is expected and ideas are valued. We are the largest not-for-profit integrated health system with seven hospitals, 220+ physician practice locations, and 25 GME programs. This network of 750+ multi-specialty physicians in over 70 specialties offers Carilion physicians faster access to patient information and history with a sophisticated, fully integrated electronic medical record system (EPIC) and excellent access to sub-specialty consultation. This is an excellent opportunity for the continued development of a strong clinical practice, resident and medical student education, and research. The Section of Cardiology has fellowships in general, interventional and structural cardiology. Cardiologists have academic appointments through the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Research interest is supported.
