Overview

We are seeking a board-certified or truly board-eligible anesthesiologist with strong recent clinical experience to provide locum tenens coverage for a 26-week assignment in San Francisco healthcare. The ideal candidate will have recent exposure to both outpatient and inpatient surgical cases, including high-acuity cases, and will be comfortable working primarily solo while collaborating with CRNAs as needed.

• Position: Locum Tenens Anesthesiologist
• Location: San Francisco, California
• Area: Mission Bay
• Contract Length: 26 weeks
• Start Date: December 14, 2026
• Shift Duration: 10-hour day shifts
• Schedule: Full-time preferred; must be available for at least 2 weeks per month
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $13,210-$13,920
• Patient Population: Adolescents age 13+, adults, and geriatrics
• Practice Setting: Hospital operating room coverage
• Charting System: Epic
• Interview Process: 1-2 interviews
• Credentialing Timeframe: 60-90 days

Job Requirements

• Board certification required; truly board-eligible candidates may be considered if fellowship-trained
• Active California medical license required
• California DEA with Schedule 2/2N required
• Minimum of 2 years of anesthesiology experience
• Recent experience in tertiary care centers required
• Recent experience working independently required
• Strong recent experience with a mix of outpatient and inpatient surgical cases
• Experience with high-acuity cases preferred
• Regional anesthesia experience strongly preferred
• Trauma experience strongly preferred
• BLS and ACLS required; AHA certification preferred
• COVID-19 vaccine with booster required, with medical or religious exemptions only
• Ability to provide references, updated CV, license verification, and completed provider paperwork during the credentialing process

Responsibilities

• Provide anesthesia coverage for general surgical cases and occasional regional cases
• Manage a mix of inpatient and outpatient procedures
• Work primarily independently in the operating room
• Occasionally support or oversee CRNAs as needed
• Deliver safe, high-quality anesthesia care for adolescents and adults
• Adapt to a varied case mix while maintaining efficiency and clinical excellence
• Collaborate with surgical and perioperative teams to ensure smooth case flow
• Exclude cardiac, liver, and neuro cases from the practice mix
