Job description Locums Anesthesiology Float Pool Opportunity – Burlingame, California Position Overview

Assignment Type: Locums

Start Date: December 14, 2026

Contract Length: 26+ weeks

Coverage: Full-time preferred

Minimum Availability: At least 2 weeks per month

Practice Setting: Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center Float Pool

Availability & Schedule

Schedule: Variable shifts

Shift Structure: No fixed 8-hour or 10-hour shifts

Coverage Model: Providers will float between inpatient hospital OR coverage and outpatient ambulatory surgery center coverage.

Important: There is no option for outpatient-only work. Providers must be comfortable floating from high-acuity inpatient cases to outpatient cases.

Licensure & Certification Requirements

California Medical License: Active California medical license required

DEA: Active California DEA with Schedule II authorization required

Board Certification: Board Certified in Anesthesiology required

Board Eligibility: Truly Board Eligible candidates may be considered, particularly those with fellowship training

BLS: AHA BLS required

ACLS: AHA ACLS preferred

Clinical Experience Requirements

Recent Anesthesiology Experience: Minimum 2 years

Practice Experience: Recent experience with both inpatient and outpatient surgical cases required

Solo Practice: Recent experience practicing independently/solo is required

Tertiary Care: Recent tertiary care or medical center experience required

Patient Acuity: Experience with high-acuity patients, generally ASA III+, required

Trauma: Trauma experience strongly preferred

Regional Anesthesia: Strongly preferred but not required

CRNA Experience: Experience working with or supervising CRNAs preferred

Teaching Hospital: Teaching hospital experience preferred

Chronic Pain: Candidates with predominantly chronic pain practice experience are not a fit

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide anesthesia coverage for inpatient and outpatient surgical cases
  • Float between hospital and ambulatory surgery center locations
  • Primarily practice independently in the operating room
  • Occasionally supervise CRNAs
  • Provide general anesthesia
  • Perform occasional regional anesthesia
  • Manage high-acuity inpatient cases as part of the float pool
  • Transition between inpatient and outpatient assignments as needed
Case Mix

Patient Population: Adults and adolescents age 13+

Anesthesia: Primarily general anesthesia with occasional regional anesthesia

Patient Acuity: High acuity, primarily ASA III+

Excluded Cases:

  • Cardiac
  • Liver
  • Neurosurgical
Practice Details

EMR: Epic

Setting: Hospital OR and Ambulatory Surgery Center

Coverage Model: Multi-location float pool

Providers must be comfortable working across both inpatient and outpatient environments and transitioning between different levels of acuity throughout the assignment.
