Job description
A hospital-based anesthesia team in Upstate South Carolina is seeking a Locum Tenens Anesthesiologist (MD/DO) to provide scheduled daytime coverage from May–August 2026 with potential for ongoing work.
This opportunity offers a predictable daytime schedule with no call or weekend responsibilities at a Level 1 Trauma Center operating within a medical-direction anesthesia model alongside experienced CRNAs and strong physician support.
Case mix includes general surgical services, trauma, neuro, urology, ophthalmology, and occasional Cath Lab coverage. No OB or open-heart cases.
Job Responsibilities
Medically direct and collaborate with CRNAs/CAAs within a team-based anesthesia care model
Perform pre-operative evaluations and post-anesthesia care management
Administer and manage anesthesia including induction, maintenance, and emergence
Perform and oversee airway management and perioperative block placement
Provide anesthesia support for a variety of surgical specialties including trauma, neuro, urology, ophthalmology, and Cath Lab cases
Participate in a coordinated perioperative team with surgeons, nurses, and support staff
Ensure patient safety and adherence to clinical best practices throughout the perioperative process
Document patient care using EPIC EMR
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology (Board Certification preferred)
Active South Carolina medical license or ability to obtain
Active DEA license with South Carolina address
Active South Carolina Controlled Substance Registration (CSR)
Current ACLS and BLS certifications
Level 1 trauma experience required
Experience working within a medical direction anesthesia care team model
Comfortable performing perioperative block placement and Cath Lab anesthesia
Working Hours
Shift options: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (8-hour shifts) or 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (10-hour shifts)
Monday – Friday schedule
No call responsibilities
No weekend coverage
Flexible scheduling; providers preferred for at least one week per month, with full-time coverage available
Skills
Strong airway management and intubation skills
Proficiency in perioperative regional block placement
Experience managing trauma-level surgical cases in a high-acuity setting
Ability to work effectively within a medical direction anesthesia care team model (with CRNAs/CAAs)
Comfortable providing anesthesia for Cath Lab procedures
Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills
Excellent communication and collaboration with surgeons, nursing staff, and perioperative teams
Experience documenting care in EPIC or similar EMR systems
