General SummaryResponsible for monitoring patient comfort before, during, and after surgical or medical procedures through the administration of anesthesia and other medications. Administers anesthetics during surgery and adjusts them as needed. Monitor patients' vital signs. Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Uses intravenous, local, caudal or spinal methods to administer sedation or pain medications during surgical and other medical procedures.Supervises patients and monitors their pain medications before, during and after surgery. Offsets adverse complications or reactions. Records amount and type of anesthesia as well as the patients? conditions throughout procedures.Determines risk during medical procedures by taking medical histories, examining patients and ordering diagnostic procedures like x-rays and laboratory tests. Discusses the method and type of anesthetic to make patients numb to pain with other healthcare professionals.Provides and sustains airway management and life support during emergency surgery.Monitors patients? post-surgery and determines when they are stabilized enough to move to another room or send home.Manages anesthesiologic services and coordinates with other professionals to formulate procedures and plans. Directs the duties of medical technicians, nurses and other healthcare support staff.Educates patients and families on post-procedure care and possible complications.Common Expectations:Participates in Medical Staff activities as required and/or as requested.Observes the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Hospital and the Medical Staff.Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.Complies with established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards; participates in, contributes to and complies with Quality Assurance Plan and performance improvement initiatives.Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports and other such reports.Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.Required for All Jobs:Performs other related duties as identified.WellSpan Health has adopted and implemented a compliance program to support WellSpan's values and standards for professionalism, integrity, and ethics.
