Anesthesiologist Job Details
- Position Type: Locum tenens anesthesiologist (contract/travel healthcare job)
- Location: Norfolk, Virginia (Virginia anesthesiology jobs)
- Start Date: January 5, 2026
- End Date: April 25, 2026 (option to extend)
- Shifts per Week: 5
- Shift Duration: 8-hour nights (options for 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Call: Weeknight and/or weekend call required (1:14 rotation)
Anesthesiologist Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited anesthesiology residency program
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Anesthesiology
- Active, unrestricted Virginia medical license or eligibility to obtain
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in general anesthesia
- Experience with adult anesthesia required; pediatric anesthesia experience preferred
- Proficiency in spinal, epidural, and regional anesthesia techniques
- Ability to manage ventilation and insert central and arterial lines
- Comfort with complex vascular (excluding open heart), orthopedic, neurosurgical (spine), and obstetric cases
Healthcare Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive general anesthesia care for adult and pediatric patients
- Provide anesthesia for general, obstetric, neurosurgical (spine), complex vascular (except open heart), and orthopedic procedures
- Perform spinal, epidural, and regional anesthesia
- Participate in weeknight and/or weekend call rotation (1:14)
- Manage patient ventilation and perform insertion of central and arterial lines
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team in a high-acuity hospital setting
- Support the hospital's mission as a primary teaching facility for medical students and residents
