Position Overview

A leading Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine in Georgia is seeking a distinguished Vice Chair of Anesthesia. This senior leadership position blends executive administration, clinical excellence, and academic advancement at the state's only public academic health center.

As Vice Chair, you will partner directly with the Department Chair to drive strategy, oversee operations across perioperative services, and mentor faculty while maintaining an active clinical role.



Position, Compensation & Organization

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Serve as executive partner to the Chair and hospital leadership on strategy, operations, and academic growth
  • Lead governance, budgeting, staffing, and departmental policies
  • Mentor clinical division directors and faculty; oversee faculty recruitment and development
  • Direct operations across 56 anesthetizing sites including OR, endoscopy, and ambulatory centers
  • Drive quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Support fellowship programs in Critical Care, Pain Medicine, Pediatric Anesthesia, and Advanced Perioperative Clinical Anesthesiology




Schedule & Workload

  • ~80% clinical, 20% administrative
  • Core hours: Mon-Fri, 7 AM-5 PM
  • Call: Up to 7 nights/month (post-call recovery provided)
  • After-hours administrative availability: $300/hour ($600 past 7 PM)




Qualifications

  • Required: ABA board certification, Georgia license (or eligibility), Associate Professor rank or higher, proven anesthesia leadership experience
  • Preferred: MBA/MPH/MHA, subspecialty fellowship training, experience leading large academic teams




Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $520K+ (Associate Professor) / $540K+ (Professor)
  • $30K annual leadership stipend + $15K-$20K incentive bonus
  • $40K sign-on bonus + $20K relocation assistance
  • $5K CME allowance + 10 CME days; $1,000 annual faculty development funds
  • Total PTO: 56 days (21 vacation, 12 sick, 13 holidays, 10 CME)
  • Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, disability, retirement plans, malpractice coverage with state tort protections
  • Tuition assistance: up to 9 credit hours/semester at 26 Georgia universities
