Position Summary
Sygnetics is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Pain Management Physician to provide full-time onsite care for Veterans at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. The physician must have demonstrated experience in pain management and opioid prescribing and will evaluate, treat, and coordinate care for patients within granted VA clinical privileges.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage acute and chronic pain conditions, including responsible medication and opioid prescribing within VA policy and granted privileges.
- Complete histories and physical examinations; order and interpret laboratory, imaging, electrocardiographic, and other clinically appropriate studies.
- Develop treatment plans, administer or prescribe medications, and coordinate consultations with primary care and specialty clinicians.
- Provide consultation and instruction to referring providers regarding appropriate work-up, procedures, treatment options, and follow-up.
- Communicate test results, provide patient education and follow-up instructions, and coordinate care across settings.
- Complete clinical documentation and appropriate Evaluation and Management coding by the end of each patient encounter.
Additional Hospital Responsibilities
The PWS also includes hospital-medicine responsibilities when assigned and within the physician's privileges. These duties may include reviewing inpatient admissions, coordinating perioperative care, developing discharge plans, arranging follow-up, discussing advance-care preferences, assessing and stabilizing emergent inpatients, and participating in code or rapid-response teams.
Schedule and Coverage
- Standard onsite schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; each billable day is defined as eight clinical hours.
- The physician must be present and ready to begin care at the scheduled clinic start time.
- The VA requires one qualified Pain Management Physician onsite each scheduled day.
- The physician may be scheduled during other facility operating hours when required by the Chief of Staff or designee.
- Continuity is important; substitutions are generally limited to urgent or emergent absences.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree with completed education, residency, fellowship, and training necessary to practice independently in the assigned scope.
- Current board certification or documented board eligibility in Pain Medicine through an applicable recognized board, including the American Board of Anesthesiology or American Board of Pain Medicine.
- Demonstrated experience in pain management and opioid prescribing.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. A current or prior restricted, suspended, revoked, surrendered, or denied license is disqualifying under the PWS.
- Current unrestricted DEA registration and National Provider Identifier.
- Current VA-approved Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification or accepted equivalent.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently and to provide verifiable education, training, employment, and competency records.
- Ability to complete VA credentialing, privileging, orientation, electronic health-record training, and all mandatory annual training before providing care.
- Current continuing medical education, required immunizations and health screenings, work authorization, and eligibility to participate in federal healthcare programs.
Performance Expectations
- Practice only within approved privileges and comply with VA, Joint Commission, patient-safety, infection-control, privacy, and professional standards.
- Report on time and remain available throughout each assigned clinical shift.
- Maintain all licenses, registrations, certifications, privileges, and required training throughout the assignment.
- Document care accurately and promptly, communicate clinically significant results, and support continuity across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Report patient-safety incidents promptly and complete required VA reporting within 24 hours.
- Participate in quality-improvement, peer-review, and staff activities when required by VA leadership.
Contract Term and Application
The anticipated assignment includes a one-year base period beginning in October 2026, with four optional one-year extensions. Interested physicians should submit a current CV and documentation of medical licensure, pain-medicine board status, DEA registration, NPI, BLS, ACLS, relevant experience, and availability for full-time onsite coverage. Final placement is contingent on VA credentialing, privileging, health screening, and completion of required training.
