Family practice doctors, as primary care physicians, are often the first person whom a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility. Willing to start own practice and join medical group.

Typical job duties include taking patient histories, performing or requesting diagnostic tests, making diagnoses, prescribing treatment, administering vaccinations and performing follow-up examinations, as well as educating patients in disease prevention and health maintenance. Additional duties include preparing medical records, clinical reports and correspondences. Family practice doctors also supervise allied health professionals, such as nurses, physician assistants and medical assistants.

SSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides comprehensive medical services for members of family, regardless of age or sex, on continuing basis: Examines patients, using medical instruments and equipment.
  2. Elicits and records information about patient’s medical history.
  3. Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
  4. Analyzes reports and findings of tests and examination, and diagnoses condition of patient.
  5. Administers or prescribes treatments and medications.
  6. Promotes health by advising patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease.
  7. Inoculates and vaccinates patients to immunize patients from communicable diseases.
  8. Provides prenatal care to pregnant women, delivers babies, and provides postnatal care to mothers and infants.
  9. Performs surgical procedures commensurate with surgical competency.
  10. Refers patients to medical specialist for consultant services when necessary for patient’s well-being.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Works continually to assure deliverance of quality clinical care in a safe, efficient, competent, and effective manner.
  2. Prepare records and reports as required in support of services rendered in accordance with established procedures.
  3. Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to his/her assigned cases and/or performance of services as determined by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency with 2 years or more experience
  • Current board certification by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine (AOBFM)
