About the Chief of Vascular Surgery Position

The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School is
currently recruiting a Board-Certified Vascular Surgeon to lead the Section of Vascular Surgery. Offering an exceptional opportunity, we are searching for a Chief of the Section to lead our growing team of five vascular surgeons and five advanced practice providers in a clinic-based academic program with remarkable prospects in clinical practice, research, and teaching. The ideal candidate should possess excellent clinical and technical skills, have exceptional leadership qualities, and have a collaborative approach to patient care. The Division Chief will recruit and retain faculty; manage program development and growth; build regional referral programs, set strategic direction for the division and align goals with institutional objectives.

The selected candidate will lead our expanding Vascular Surgery Division and will have the opportunity to engage in a robust clinical practice covering the full spectrum of vascular diseases. This includes complex aortic interventions, limb-salvage procedures, and comprehensive care for venous disorders.
In addition to advanced endovascular and open surgical expertise, a strong track record in managing complex aortic pathology is highly desired. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Vascular Surgery and must have completed an accredited vascular surgery fellowship or integrated residency.

The role also includes significant involvement in medical student education and general surgery resident training, with active participation in GME activities expected.

· Foster a culture that prioritizes faculty success, enhances satisfaction and retention, and supports the growth of both academic and clinical activities.

· Ensure the division consistently meets or exceeds benchmarked quality standards across clinical outcomes, operational processes, patient experience, and overall quality rankings.

· Deliver high-quality clinical care, participating in on-call coverage, staffing outpatient clinics, managing perioperative patients, and responding to daily consultation requests.

· Demonstrate expertise in building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships, with a proven track record of collaborating effectively with academic partners, physicians, consultants, diverse management teams, and affiliated partners to implement clinical programs and advance quality initiatives.

· Actively contribute to the education of medical students and general surgery residents.

· Engage in clinical research, quality improvement, and scholarly activities.

· Promote an environment of scientific inquiry by collaborating with trainees, researchers, and multidisciplinary colleagues within Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
