Job description About The Assistant Professor of Pathology
The Dell Medical School (DMS) at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a talented individual to join the faculty as a core faculty member responsible for contributing to the pathology education of students at DMS.

What You'll Do:
  • Develop and teach the integrated pathology/histology curriculum to undergraduate medical students utilizing interactive and active learning/flipped modalities
  • Deliver a horizontally and vertically integrated pre-clerkship curriculum with other faculty members
  • Prepare course materials (lectures, PBL cases, laboratory activities, and assessments)
  • Organize and coordinate didactics and self-directed learning activities with clinicians and other foundational science faculty
  • Employ a variety of teaching formats and modalities for lecture, lab, small groups, and problem-based learning
  • Contribute to the multidisciplinary anatomy lab sessions and other multidisciplinary taught courses
  • Serve as a course director or co-director for one or more pre-clerkship organ systems-based courses
  • Deliver effective student-centered educational experiences
  • Prepare instructional plans to reflect current changes in the field of pathology
  • Develop new instructional materials and teaching techniques with participation in on-going reviews and revision of curriculum planning
  • Develop both formative and summative assessments including both clinical and anatomic pathology and integrated biomedical sciences content
  • Facilitate PBL experiences
  • Actively participate in relevant professional activities in order to improve teaching and maintain subject matter competence
  • Respond to evaluation data as needed for continuous quality improvement
  • Develop scholarly products from your work to disseminate our innovative curriculum
  • Hold membership on faculty committees as appointed or elected, and confer with advisory groups to modify course content
  • Participate in other activities as assigned by the Assistant and Associate Deans of Undergraduate Medical Education
  • Participate in accreditation activities
  • Participate in the interview and selection process of faculty, staff, and students
Qualifications Required:
  • M.D./or Ph.D. in Physiology or related biological science. Candidates with a medical degree must have completed a residency in Anatomic Pathology (AP), Clinical Pathology (CP), or a combined AP/CP program, and are board certified or eligible for certification from the American Board of Pathology.

  • Skills: Strong analytic, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills are paramount. Excellent communication skills are needed to convey complex learning concepts and to team teach with academic clinicians and other foundational science faculty
  • Academic Standing: The ability to meet the requirements for appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, which includes a track record of strong interest in education
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A strong interest and proficiency in other foundational science domains, such as microbiology or infectious diseases, is preferred, to allow for participation in a broader range of scientific foundations courses.
  • Experience directing a medical or graduate school educational program.
  • Experience directing integrated blocks in first year medical school curricula.
  • Experience with Canvas or other learning management system
  • Experience with online testing tools such as ExamSoft Application Instructions
