Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Cardiac Surgery Float Pool. This locum position provides care for patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery, supporting a team of experienced surgeons and healthcare professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in cardiothoracic surgery.
Manage urgent surgical cases, including patients transferring from the cath lab to surgery.
Monitor patients from ICU through discharge, collaborating with the surgical team.
Serve as the primary NP on call during assigned shifts, with the surgeon available for backup.
Participate in patient consultations, preoperative and postoperative care.
Document patient care and procedures in Epic.
Ensure compliance with facility guidelines, including vaccination protocols.
Schedule:
Shift: Standard 3-day coverage
Hours: Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM
Call: 24-hour coverage, 3 weekends per month
Requirements:
Education: Nurse Practitioner with focus on Surgery Cardiothoracic
Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a cardiothoracic surgery setting
Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
Licensure: PA NP License (or willing to obtain)
DEA License: Required
Charting: Experience with Epic EMR
Additional Skills: Ability to handle urgent surgical cases, strong critical care and clinical judgment
